This is a meet your practitioner page! This page is sectioned off so you can pay attention to the sections you value the most in your providers. Some sections will include jargon-y language, but we try to keep it to a minimum.
A Note on Language: flexibility in pronoun and name use occurs throughout this section much like the dynamic, subjective, and natural movement through life.
EMS, fire, police, military, and veterans: we are versed in non-civilian aspects of your experiences.

Degrees, Memberships, & Qualifications
Elizabeth C Mattia (Lil) is the owner of Julian's Compass with a master's degree from Northwestern University in clinical mental health counseling, national certification through NBCC, and a Registered Professional Counselor Associate in Oregon State under supervision from Katherine Hennessy, LPC, CADC 1. Lil is currently in pursuit of their PhD in counseling education and supervision at Oregon State University, and maintains active memberships in national and international counseling associations including IBOSP, AASECT, ACA, CSJ, SAIGE, ACSSW, ACES, NAARACES, and WACES. Elizabeth founded Chi Sigma Iota Nu Upsilon Omega in 2023 with the help of her founding officers and CFAs, and is currently finishing her final presidential year as Past-President.
Therapy Style
Elizabeth is part of the LGBTGEQIAP+ umbrella through their sexuality and gender identity/expression. They hold research interests in death and non-death loss, human sexuality & identity development, CACREP, and Counselors In Training (CIT) skill development. Lil’s approach to therapy is rooted in psychodynamic theory with a touch of humanistic theories such as emotion-focused, existential, and narrative approaches. She is sex positivite, kink positivite, poly/CNM/alternative relationship positive, and integrates queer theory, feminism and multiculturalism into their work. Essentially, she strongly values all things human-positive and offers space for all of those who have ever felt silenced.
Background often informs practice.
Elizabeth has held advocacy at her core for as long as she can remember. Lil is vegan, values all life, and is often called upon to "get this bug out of here or I am going to squish it". She draws much of her counselor identity from internal and external experiences throughout life. Prior to her career in counseling, Elizabeth leaned into helping careers such as being an ABA TA working with developmental disabilities and dual diagnosis where she specialized in aggression and non-compliance through public and private K-12 school systems. Lil worked in crisis response having been previously trained in CPI, first aid, AED, and narcan implementation. She has also worked in residential counseling, animal training and enrichment (CATEP certified), and food service (SafeServ Manager Certifiied) for a major hospital while living in New York State.
Our experiences can culminate to inform our own growth and understanding of the world, the universe, and everything in-between. Lil's passion for noticing gaps and engaging in consistent internal reflection and growth stems from her experiences navigating through systems designed for minimization.
Specializations & Certifications
Lil specializes in universal human phenomena of loss, grief, and love. This includes death and non-death loss experiences, sexual and gender identity development and understanding, and traditionally marginalized relationship structures and populations.
They are certified in SAIGE’s Rainbow Level 1 (pending certificate), PFA, CITI, CALM, and NBCC certified.
